We use Mattermost at work for maintaining encrypted communication channels between team members in the organization. It's been a good tool to work with as a remote-first company. It also has a high degree of integration with third-party software which helps with tasks like project management, collaboration tracking the progress of certain tasks.
  • End to End Encrypted chats
  • Integration with Jira and GitHub
  • Works well with mobile application
  • Can search in chat for past conversations/information
  • Heavy delays in sync between mobile app and desktop app
  • No Video or Voice call feature currently
  • Not enough onboarding resources to get started
I think its great for companies that work less with audio calls/video calls so maybe an entirely in-person work culture where texts are only exchanged between employees. But, for a remote first company or hybrid, voice calls and video calls are very imp- and that's where this tool falls short. We made a switch to Teams for the same reason of the inconvenience

In our firm Mattermost serves as additional communication and collaborational role. Our few depts such as regulatory, marketing & sales use it for internal & external collaboration. It addresses some business problems including cross departmental co-ordination between teams.
  • Inquiries management
  • Sharing compliance documents
  • Marketing compaigns
  • Task management
  • Mobile support
  • File sharing
  • Search filters
It addresses most of the communication problems effectively, and useful for customer feedback.

We use it as our internal communication tool / main messaging platform. We find it to be a very flexible tool that we can adjust for the specific needs of our organization. We use it for all things communication and basically only use email for outside parties. I think it is so much better than microsoft teams and other tools like that!
  • Messaging
  • Saving Messages for Later
  • Sharing files
  • maintentance (since it's open source IT needs to invest more in keeping it in good shape)
  • third party integrations (less features than slack)
  • It's a little less visually polished than big tech platforms
It's really great if you want more control of the tool to abe able to customize it to the needs of your specific organizations. Sometimes off the shelf options don't work for all orgs.

Mattermost is used by the infrastructure team as the main communication platform. It's also used for alert aggregation and chat-ops like functionality.
Using Google Chat before left a lot of gaps for team collaboration and chat-ops functionality. The value of being able to search past messages has also been extremely useful. This product also is open source which is part of the IT organizations values.
  • Chat and chat groups functionality
  • Simple and robust webhooks
  • Easy to use and understand web interface
  • Easily searchable chats and groups
  • Update process isn't as streamlined as I would like
  • Not as easy to integrate outside services as other chat platforms
  • Using a third party identity wasn't straightforward or was costly
  • This might have changed but RBAC style access controls were quite limited
This is an excellent open source chat platform for small to medium teams. I can't see it working well at a massive scale due to having a smaller set of permissions and security settings. It is very nice to own the data that backs the chats and files. It would be nice to have more of the meeting style features built in as well as greater integration with something like nextcloud or similar tools.

It is very suited when different teams are involved in a particular task which helps them to collaborate easily. It also helps to use bots for repetitive tasks which helps to focus on critical tasks. The file sharing is also very smooth. It helps to track the status in real time which improves efficiency.

Our operation had employees and freelancing contractors and we used Mattermost to facilitated the communication while restricting the freelancers' access to some specific information and groups. I didn't have access to the product on an admin level, but it was clear to everyone that it came as an easier option to set up.
  • Easy to set up
  • Control over who has access
  • Best option on a cost benefit perspective
  • The tool and support was entirely in English
  • No built-in video chat
I used Mattermost on a full remote company and it perfectly suited our collaboration and communication culture. The company dealt with privileged and personal information of a huge data base of users, so it was a significant advantage for our need to comply with industry regulations.

We use Mattermost as our central hub for team discussion / collaboration. It's where we discuss events, share updates, and make announcements, ensuring everyone is aligned. Important documents and files are also easily shared, giving everyone access to necessary information. Mattermost also helps us track tasks and projects efficiently, improving coordination among us.
  • This software keeps all team discussions in one place, making event planning and updates easy and organized.
  • Quickly share and collaborate.
  • Assigning and tracking of tasks is easy.
  • I believe a more intuitive design would help improve the user experience.
  • Expanding its integration capabilities would make it even more versatile and useful for our diverse needs.
  • Enhancing the app performance and reliability and making it more intuitive would be nice!
Mattermost is perfect for organizing events. We create dedicated channels for each event, where team members can discuss details, share updates.

While Mattermost is great for basic task tracking, it lacks some advanced project management features found in specialized tools. For complex projects, a dedicated project management tool might be more appropriate.

We started using Mattermost almost 14 months ago and it has changed the way we communicate between teams and departments. It allows us to collaborate in a better way. We are able to find use all the other features for Project Management and linking to GitLab and Jira for development related activities.
  • Secure Messaging
  • Customized Integration of Uipath APIs
We can use Mattermost for effective Project Management. There are multiple channels that one can create for each project. We can share project specific files and also assign tasks to individuals. The Task tracking feature comes in very handy as well. Since we can directly integrate apps like Gitlab, Github and Jenkins, getting multiple developer and Operations Teams to work on a single module is easy.

We use Mattermost in our organization to replace Microsoft Teams. We recently subscribed to this software. This software helped our organization resolve specific problems, such as ineffective collaboration among employees, more time spent on decision-making processes, and much more. Our scope of this software is to speed up the decision-making process and have effective team collaboration.
  • File sharing and team collaboration.
  • Improves decision making process among employees.
  • Security and compliance features.
  • User interface.
  • Video conferencing feature.
  • Pricing
Mattermost is well suited for team members working remotely as it is a better way of communicating securely between employees. The enterprise feature of Mattermost is well-suited for large organizations. Sometimes, it is costly for organizations with fewer employees and smaller projects.

We used Mattermost during a Cutover management for a healthcare client, as there was minimal downtime. Any minor incident can be massive, affecting thousands of users in a critical state. It helps us collaborate with all teams, Dev, Solution Experts, Process Experts, Project Managers, etc., under one source of truth with all necessary compliance requirements.
  • Security: With its robust Security features we were able to ensure our client with GxP requirements.
  • All in One Roof: Like big room planning, it enables teams worldwide to work together and deploy a critical application with minimal downtime.
  • Automation: It truly helps us automate some of the repeatable tasks, thus increasing bandwidth for other tasks.
  • Interoperability: For some of the features that were not migrated and managed in other third-party applications, having a marketplace will be good.
  • Mobile App: Having more functionality for iOS, such as an adaptive Dashboard and location Tracking with, let's say, Harmony Protect Integration, is a useful feature for BYOD Device setup.
  • Data Import /Export: An API to extract data from other apps or export to other apps will also be a nice feature to have when building contingency plans.
All-in-one Security and AI workflows during any cutover management are wonderful features where Mattermost excels. We have a highly compliant environment with all GxP regulations, and it works like a charm. In terms of regular Deployment in less critical applications, Microsft teams/Webex can be cost-effective solutions.

Our team can easily talk to each other and work together. Mattermost has great UI/UX because it's simple for new people to get around. The team finds it easy to use business chat, but I can get it on my phone and use it. Many chat sites don't let you do this when connected to your company's VPN. I like that Mattermost lets people talk to each other safely. Collaboration gets better.
  • Easy team communication and collaboration.
  • Cost effective and user friendly.
  • Excellent UI/UX for new users.
  • It's a pain that Mattermost makes you copy and paste file links.
  • Power drain on laptops is noticeable.
  • There are other platforms that let you plan and hold calls.
I highly recommend Mattermost because it enables easy team collaboration and communication. It is also very user-friendly, cost-effective, and safe to use.

We decided to start with Mattermost as a ChatOps tool to enable fast cross-team collaboration in our projects. We started with a limited number of teams enabled to use the tool. The focus was on several projects to test it as an alternative to Microsoft Teams and Slack.
  • Scrum team project management.
  • Simple and basic.
  • Secure
  • Multi-team collaboration features could be better.
  • Bugs are more common.
  • Content length limitation.
It works well for fundamental collaborations but not so well for larger teams. It's hard to pick it over Microsoft Teams or Slack, though, as they offer better options and features. However, security is a good feature of Mattermost. The integrated ChatOps platform for DevSecOps is one of the best features.

Previously we don't have proper communication tool in the organization to communicate with every team like Business development team, Tech team, Quality assurance team, Operations team , Finance team. But now with the Mattermost we are able to integrate single communication channel and it is now easy to chat or communicate with entire team in single go . It helped organization in saving more time and also information is reaching end user effectively
  • Integrating the different communication channels in to single one
  • timely deployment of changes in code in staging and prod environment
  • Improved stability in the output with proper security measures even while shifting software for outside vendor
  • Needed proper integration for API calling features while deploying in prod from staging sometimes the calling function is not responding properly on time and taking more time to resolve this issue
  • Proper support needed whenever any issue raised from customers as chatbot is not giving proper response most of the time for most of the cases
As I mentioned it is very good at security and also best at integrating communicating channels internally with internal team and also with outside vendor who is working for us. In the scenarios where customer wanted to call Api's for the token he raised it is not responding in a timely manner in some cases .

We used to use Mattermost as a form of team communication and organization. Mattermost is very easy to navigate, everything is self explanatory to use. We primarily used it for chatting internally, teams meetings, discussions and keeping track of different projects.
  • Easy to use
  • Setting up calls/ meetings
  • Direct messaging
  • Channels to keep track of projects
  • Sometimes the mobile app would not notify me
  • Glitches with uploading files sometimes
I think Mattermost is a great option for a large team. It is easy to send messages, set up a meeting or call internally. It is also great because there are channels you can keep track of different projects with and it is all in once place. However, I did not rate a 10 because even though Mattermost is easy to use, there are sometimes issues with notifications on the mobile app so I do prefer Teams.

Mattermost is helpful for employee communications, especially since our company is 100% remote based. Mattermost makes it easy to reach one another, and send messages, files, and more to each other. This is how we communicate when employees are on shift, and when reporting back to one another. Mattermost can also be downloaded on employee's mobile devices so they can always access work communications.
  • Different Threads
  • Simple notifications
  • Task checklists
  • An added knowledge base, for files that employees need to use often
Mattermost is most suited for any and all communications between remote employees during the shifts. This platform instantly sends messages to an entire channel, or you can privately message a group or individual. When tasks need to be completed, the checklist helps all of us to know what has been accomplished, and what needs to be done. This allows us all to stay on track, and complete tasks on time.

- communication between team members as well as communication with other teams
- group calls for small meetings
- low-cost alternative communication software
- able to self-host which is optimal for startups
  • AI copilot: a handy feature that summarizes messages and can give further context if needed
  • Jira integration: can create Jira from messages, which is quite a useful and time-saving feature.
  • GitHub integration: Pending PRs, notifications is quite useful
  • Multiple messages in the thread is grouped through in small fonts with the main text, which is quite good.
  • UI can be more interactive, innovative, and aesthetically pleasing
  • video calls can be made better
Very good project management, you can see Jira's issues, epics, tasks, stories in single application, which can summarize what team is working on and what all things is in my plate.

We use Mattermost as the team chat. It replaced our old PSI team chat because it was becoming difficult to share files and code snippets.
  • Quick chat with coworkers
  • Easy to transfer most common file types
  • Group chats
  • Notification system is a single red dot in the tray icon
  • Sometimes it is difficult to understand who you are writing
  • It eats a lot of processing power and memory, 9 exe process and 155MB of RAM
Well suited for quick chat with coworkers, transfer files, organize group chats.
Less suited for contact with customers

There is no requirement for having a hosting platform for implementing Mattermost. There is no requirement to have a separate communication channel for different types of communication. Being compatible with all device formats makes it super easy to access. Integrating with other platforms has enabled Mattermost to be a convenient platform for any sort of need.
  • Integration with Teams
  • Opensource
  • Self-hosting
  • Loaded features/functionality
  • Different channels and creation for groups
  • Better documentation required
  • High battery consumption
  • Learning paths
For enterprises looking to have an open source and self-hosted platform to streamline their workflows in the communication channel and related fields, should surely consider Mattermost as a great option for their team, since it is loaded with features and functionality that enables teams to just have great scope of usage.

We have been using Mattermost as a communication platform to keep everything transparent as well as organized. We share files easily regarding our projects as well as we host it on our own platform as it is open source .The communication part become easy as we can create different channels for different steps or projects.
  • Hosting calls
  • Creating different channels
  • best UI experience
  • Updating status features like what is the progress of a particular project can be added.
  • Direct call options
  • reducing time taken for sharing larger files
Mattermost is most suitable at workplace where different work projects has to be completed step by step, so communication becomes important to complete the task in time, and in the remote world having a platform to connect with all the teams at one place is really necessary. Mattermost may not be suitable for small workplace where remote communications are not required much.

Mattermost tackles the problem of secure realtime communication and efficient task management. It is better than email which often goes under an attack of spam mail in my institute. Mattermost provides a consolidated communication channel for outsourcing tasks to various departments in our institute such as the mechanical workshop or the computer security department. It also helps in project coordination and knowledge sharing among team members and colleagues effectively, in a modern way which is better than gmail.
  • Secure and convenient communication better than mail: apart from end to end encryption, there is seamless integration with third-party tools like Jira and Github.
  • As an open-source platform, there are extensive customization options that everyone can tailor to their specific needs, which gives it a considerable advantage over Teams
  • It is cross platform and can be used remotely on any device which adds to the convenience of using this from anywhere.
  • Although the user interface can be tuned by every user, it is a bit difficult for a beginner to get started given the complexity of the UI. Streamlining this, and adding onboarding tutorials could be helpful
  • Built in video calling feature is not as robust as existing solutions like Zoom or teams. Although I rarely use this feature in my current use-case, whenever I have tested this, I found it is miles behind existing solutions.
  • While searching among messages and files was a pain, the search functionality could definitely be improved and advanced filters or possibly indexing could be added to the search functionality.
For organisational work requiring high security and open-source channel for communication, as opposed to solutions by big-tech which use our chats as training date, Mattermost is particularly well suited. Also, because of integration toolz and a good file sharing system. The app integration ecosystem is slightly behind Microsoft Teams so is the video conferencing capabilities and features such as breakout rooms. Missing Office 365 integration is a bit of a limitation as well.
