Resolving customer cases is easier with this tool; all are resolved within a time limit. Document selection system according to importance.

IBM Watson Discovery has helped us and our clients tap into loads of data sources, create collections with documents, enrich these documents, and allow us to search through them and get answers to questions it took us a long time to find in the past, and now it takes us only a few seconds to search and find what we are looking for. This has helped free up our staff's schedules to focus on more important issues rather than spend hours and weeks manually searching documents to find a needle in a haystack.
  • Searching through big collections of documents has never been easier thanks to Discovery's ability to identify, classify, profile, tag, and even split documents to allow for optimized search results.
  • IBM Watson Discovery is by far the go-to tool for mining data collections and getting deeper insights, thanks to the recent release of the Data Miner feature and its amazing graphic interface.
  • Another thing Discovery does well is the use of Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Smart Document Understanding (SDU) features to train and learn the structures of documents which makes it super easy to find and highlight answers to complex questions.
  • Discovery does not have an end-user interface which makes it a little cumbersome for the non-technical audience. One needs to figure out how to leverage open-source technology to create a simple UI to interface with Discovery, but I believe IBM Dev teams ought to create an intuitive UI similar to that of Watson Assistant and make it easier for both technical and non-technical audiences to use Discovery with ease.
  • Another issue we faced with Discovery was when we tried to ingest very technical documents with less text and more engineering diagrams and ended up with a bit of a mess because Discovery did not manage to parse them correctly, but that is being fixed by IBM Dev team as far as I know. IBM is enhancing its OCR to allow for better recognition and understanding of advanced engineering graphs and diagrams.
  • After having tested the newly released Data Miner on IBM Watson Discovery, my impression is that it is targeting a niche audience of SMEs and technical people who understand what to mine for and comprehend the overly complicated graphs generated. I believe IBM should work on simplifying the UI as well as the way graphs are being displayed to allow business users to leverage this awesome feature.
Overall, IBM Watson Discovery is an amazing technology that we use with our clients to address various business problems, but the biggest challenge has always been about ingesting, analyzing, enriching, and searching huge collections of documents and allowing our end users and SMEs to be able to search for what they need to reduce the time and efforts spent daily on a manual search through various collections of documents. We have successfully managed to reduce manual work by over 80%, and now our SMEs are being used for the skills they have to gather insights rather than do manual work.

In the technical area, it took us about six months to train a new analyst in the systems developed by the company so that after this training period, he/she would be able to provide assistance to customers autonomously; even so, the support and monitoring of a full analyst is necessary. As doubts about features, parameterization, and even error correction are frequent, they need to resort to the support of another analyst or even escalate the level of service. As we have a library of documents and manuals on the use of the systems, as well as technical documentation, we were able to create a chatbot with Watson Assistant and integrate it with the Watson Discovery service to include in the answers sent to technicians, the documentation associated with the item it was researching, this ensured that we maintained a standard of knowledge in the company, reduced the need for support from a full or senior analyst in the assistance of the junior analyst, and disseminated all the new features and procedures of our systems in a centralized and accessible way.

Whether using it as a standalone search tool, integrating with other IBM Watson products, or using the API to integrate with proprietary or third-party systems and applications, Watson Discovery addresses these and many other scenarios where document search is required -- understand- if here documents can be pdf, doc, txt files, websites, among other formats --, don't confuse Watson Discovery with EDRMS (Electronic document and records management system) software, Discovery goes further, allowing text search to be done within a context using natural language (NLU) and returning not only the search term but also insights and related issues. File indexing works very well, and training Discovery so that documents and technical terms are learned a bit of work, but it can be reduced by using some of the learning models already trained and available for use.

We used Watson Discovery to enrich self-serve customer capability by enabling intelligent search and retrieval of relevant content based on intent recognition. Watson Discovery resulted in a much more user-friendly and efficient way for customers to access our FAQs as opposed to having to read through static content.

Allowed Watson Assistant to make recommendations / upsell based on our partnerships /supplier offerings. Rather than have to maintain static content and update it whenever things changed, we simply enabled web crawl or deep linking.

IBM Discovery works purely on NLP and machine learning. We have multiple BMC Helix chatbots which are integrated with IBM Watson. IBM Watson is extended with Knowledge Articles through the help of IBM Discovery through crawler, one of the great features of IBM Discovery. Because of IBM Discovery training, we have a drastic change in our statistics of ChatBot accuracy.

We have been using IBM Watson Discovery over the past two years. The solution we are developing uses IBM Watson Discovery for ingesting multiple documents and then querying these documents to extract the relevant content. The way we designed the solution has each paragraph representing an IBM Watson Discovery document because we wanted to return the relevant paragraph when queried and not the entire PDF.

IBM Watson Discovery is great in terms of retrieving the relevant documents. It's fast in ingesting the documents and in responding to queries. It will work well and it will be cost-efficient when dealing with few large documents. However, the cost grows significantly as the number of documents increases. Which was the case in our solution as we have a lot of very small documents.
