We use Atlassian Confluence across [the] whole organization and it's a standard tool for project documentation storing. One of the biggest values of which Atlassian Confluence brings to our company is that you can manage all access and edit rights to your documents from a single console or even grant access for customers if needed. The other big advantage is that Atlassian Confluence [has] deep integration with other tool[s] like Jira and Miro so you can easily share content between them.

Atlassian Confluence is the central repository of knowledge. Everything from scripts for new employee setup, to Team organization, and even project progress are all in one place. Personal notes and tips and tricks are also common to find. Because it is the central repository it has been broken up into sections for different parts of the company. This has issues because many of the sections are difficult to figure out what they were called, but beneficial because it is easy to link across departments.

In my opinion, Atlassian Confluence is a decent Wiki, but there are a lot of good wikis in the world and for the cost Atlassian Confluence doesn't really have a compelling features other than their tight integration with the other Atlassian tools. Both in my work life and my open source endeavors I have significantly diverse tools, therefore the tight integration is a negative for my interactions. If you have bought into the Atlassian ecosystem Atlassian Confluence is a great choice, otherwise I really don't recommend it.

We've been working with Confluence for years to create the material for all the processes involved on the account, all the documentation has been included on this. So when there is a new teammate it has to be based on all the documentation created for every step on the process and the organization skills on the page are amazing so you can categorize every topic in order. Also is really easy to navigate.

I am a QA tester and when i have a project assigned i usually have to go to Confluence to check the documentation for all the tasks to test and the processes to follow on each one. Sometimes on every account or company you'll find a very specific way to manage the processes on different types of testing, for example if you need to know on which devices you should test or which is the scope on the tickets.

But you can't report defects with this when you're working with Jira for that matter, so you have to use both and keep them close.

We use Atlassian Confluence for knowledge management. If a developer is working on a feature and wants to share the technical details or non-technical details about that feature he can create a confluence page for that so that other stack holders can go there to understand the work. Also, let's say I am another developer who made some changes to the existing feature then I can go and edit the page with the latest information. If I am new and want to understand a particular feature, I can search for it on Atlassian Confluence. So it helps to gain knowledge about the product functionalities and get an idea of the logic when working with the legacy code.

Sometimes it feels boring to write the content because developers have to spend a lot of time already doing coding So advanced writing features like AI-enabled text completion, and text suggestion should be there to help the writers.

We use Confluence as our main source of documentation. We use it from creating documents that contain tables of data. We use it for creating design documentation. We use it for creating operational documentation. It has good search capabilities and it's easy to create simple to use navigation. It also has capabilities that allow you to be notified of changes to the documentation.

Atlassian Confluence has been a great way for my team and I to organize our ticketing queue, project management, and integration with Salesforce through custom APIs. The problem we were facing was that a lot of work was being done through Slack. We needed a better way to track the work that was being done to ensure SLAs were met and scalability was approachable.

  • Certain integrations are a bit finicky and/or lag (i.e. Slack integration in particular takes a long time to transfer data from created workflows to appear)
  • There is no auto refresh function so if my team and I are on the same document/ticket, we have to make sure one person refreshes first and then the other (so no one's work gets lost)

It addresses the local documentation,access issues.Easy sharing documents with team filters, login safety, data privacy.
Its interface gives the option to Auto select title content,standard headings in the paragraph options. Status highlight options.
Its a part of the documentation life in the organzation.

The interface is cool and has easy shortcuts for quick page making.

We are using Confluence increasingly throughout our entire company. I manage our Test Engineering team and I was the first leader to really utilize Confluence to the best of its ability. We had all this knowledge in everyone's heads that needed to be documented. You know, the "bus factor." Utilizing Confluence for this has rapidly increased the knowledge sharing across our team and teams. Also, it's much faster to onboard new employees when you can direct them to your library of documentation and how-tos!

  • Nothing concrete comes to mind.
I would not use it for creating technical diagrams. Presenting ones already created, however, is perfectly fine—presenting as an embedded file/image or an attachment. It's perfect for organizing lots of knowledge, how-tos, and team agreements. It's really helped my team to maximize our time and share information in the most efficient manner.

Confluence for the Cloud cannot handle numbered lists well – it resets the sequence to 1 if you have other items such as a table or certain apps (such as /note) or similar included in the list. This is a major drawback if you have complex procedures to create. Don’t be fooled. Confluence is actually very, very expensive to own. The Marketplace apps are seemingly very cheap - even free, however, if you have a large user base, that £5 per app is automatically multiplied by the number of users, in my case the company has some 500 users, which represents some considerable investment, especially if you want the app to do something pretty basic. The included apps look like a good deal, that is until you start using them. These apps have not all been developed with love and care (or decent supporting documentation) and turn out to be inflexible, and format themselves according to how the developer has designed them. Plus, the apps are really not all that proficient. The styles are limited to what THEY consider you will use - which personally, I don't like. Their spell checker is inaccurate for the UK market. If you've been using the old template they now have a new one and upgrading existing documents may not always work. All requests for enhancements are handled by Developers and if your request falls under a certain number of 'likes' then you can forget having the enhancement - as is the case with the numbered lists (2 years and no improvement). The page layouts are restricted to their idea of what columns of information should look like and there is little flexibility. Changing the column widths is poorly implemented to using their presets which do not always suit. You can't include anything other than videos or photos (graphics) unless you purchase an app - useless for say using Excel Tables are 'clunky' to work with. There is none of the functionality you would expect from a more proficient word processor such as Word - forget such items as search and replace Overall, if I were to choose again, I would not use Confluence for anything more than a form of a notebook.

I would not recommend confluence where you have a serious library of documentation to maintain.

Understanding which pages are the ones you need to complete a process or solve a problem is not always apparent. It often takes several searches and parsing through the results to find what you think is the right content. We have always [had] issues for centrally [managing] all wikis and team info along with all required data and collaboration with other automation tools along with we can get the maximum output and confluence having all the required parameters and smooth working while best speed and easy to use approach

It's used as a wiki of shared knowledge amongst team members of the same department. It is used as a handbook for new hires and a refresher for those who need to take over a colleague's task if they're out of the office.

  • Images within a page size automatically without its own scroll bar.

Confluence is well suited to share knowledge on specific processes for new hires and for colleagues within the same department. It may not be suitable for interdepartmental information sharing since it can be overwhelming for those unfamiliar with certain applications. It's more suited for those with basic prior knowledge of most things.

We are using [Atlassian] Confluence across several departments within the organization, but not across the entire organization. It allows us to keep our documentation related to Jira issues in one easily accessible place that directly ties into our Jira projects, which keeps us well organized and makes it more convenient to keep documentation up to date.

  • Some of the components can be a little clunky to use and configure on pages.
  • I've run into a few issues where edited pages refuse to publish and work is either lost or time wasted copying and pasting to a new document that will publish.
[Atlassian] Confluence is very well suited for documentation surrounding issues or items within other Atlassian products as well as overall internal product documentation. It is not suited for documentation that is intended for an external audience or even internal people who are not member of the workspace or project since the documents would have to be downloaded and delivered through some other means.

Confluence has been our standard company tool for years to capture, organize, share, and discover knowledge. Confluence is used by the entire company but enjoys high utilization with the technical software engineering teams. Confluence ensures that product architectures, partner integrations, and customer projects are fully and accurately documented. Confluence is also used externally to share common customer documentation, online help, and integration specifications to our product's platform. Confluence is the ideal tool for sharing structured and connected content both inside and outside of the company.

We currently use Confluence as our primary document collaboration repository - everything from meeting notes, status updates, how-to documentation, business processes, etc are all stored inside Confluence. This allows for anyone in the company to obtain access to meeting information and policies from a central, easy to navigate system. Every team within the company has their own 'space' within Confluence to format and design how their team operates within Confluence. The amount of data we moved from various Word documents and PDFs has been staggering.

If you're looking for a wiki solution that is either internal or shared with trusted parties, Confluence is well designed as an enterprise-level product for that project. It shines best as a company wiki and document collaboration tool - allowing multiple users to edit a page in real-time at the same time (similar to Google Docs). Permissions can be set at the page level or space level to further enhance a user's ability to find content relevant to them.

[Atlassian] Confluence is used across some departments within the company. Its primary purpose is to be a "knowledge hub" for content, information, training, etc for our teams. It's the go to place for resources about the product, metrics or to link out to various other resources (google docs, applications, etc).
  • Enables sharing and insights across different departments. Ability to see content in other departments.
  • Ability for all users to have public access to create their own content.
  • The features to embed different pages or documents makes it easier to remain in confluence and not have to toggle to different applications.
  • At times the tool is not always user friendly and intuitive
  • Building pages can often require a deeper understanding of more technical skillsets like HTML to build pages that display nicely

We're using [Atlassian] Confluence as a repository for internal documentation and engineering documentation. It's used across the whole company but mostly our developers and engineers are using it on a regular basis. [Atlassian] Confluence addresses the challenges of keeping an organization's documentation in one neat place that's easily accessible.

  • Some of the formatting options are difficult to use.
I think [Atlassian] Confluence is an amazing option for larger companies however for a smaller team of less than 20 it might not be the best choice. It definitely helps our team stay connected while working remotely and we're able to stay on top of projects with ease.

Atlassian confluence is used in whole organisation across various departments and at all levels.
It is used in sharing documentation ,sops, dashboards,excel sheet etc with concerned teams or person.
Atlassian confluence solves the main problem of storing and accessing the documents from single source instead of creating copies to store as archives.
If some changes are there in any documents we use to create multiple copies to store everywhere. But after using confluence it is uploaded in single link and everyone can reach out to it. Thus saving time
Also saving money to setup same method of accessing and storing documents.

  • Easily connects with other atlassian software like jira. So one can raise ticket in jira and provide data in confluence
  • Permission manage is good feature to hide or show files.
  • Feed feature is good to keep up to date
  • Search engine is not so great. Sometimes nothing appears in search.

  • Cam be difficult to understand and use at starting
Atlassian confluence is very well suited with mid and large organisations where there can be many teams scattered over world and every team requires same set of documents. So with help of confluence it can be easily achieved.
I will not recommended confluence for those organisations who do not have any heavy documentations to share or small team as it can be solved with mails also.

[Atlassian] Confluence is being used by our organization across all departments and trams. [Atlassian] Confluence is great for helping our company maintain all documentation, standard procedures, etc. We have a lot of different technologies that we use, so it is great to keep everyone on the same page and house all of these standards.
  • QUICK How-to Guides that can be generated and share instantly
  • One can subscribe to the pages and spaces and receive updates in the feed on their home page
  • Automatic Email notifications of new updates in the Confluence area
  • The platform integrates easily with other Atlassian platforms including third-party apps thus improving its reliability
  • The web app has a tendency to be quite slow
  • The export can only export as word or PDF. It would be great if it can also export as markdown.
  • I wish the navigation were a little easier
If you're looking to build a tightly integrated suite of documentation, code management, and task management, [Atlassian] Confluence will do a great job and serving the documentation piece of the puzzle. Through short code/actions, you can easily link in-work tickets and on the Jira side of things, you can easily point to documentation to help finish a task. We've done this on a couple of large projects with success. For a general Wiki, it may be a little bit too much infrastructure, and the system may cause you to create too many documents which leads to an organizational hassle.

Atlassian Confluence is used across the company, within several locations. Atlassian Confluence is an easy tool to use and connects several teams across the whole organisation. It addressed several communication backlogs and created a more convivial area to share quickly and efficiently updates on projects and steps to follow.

  • Formatting text can be a challenge to new users.
When you need fast updates and a one stop area to glance at priorities and new stuff on a project, Atlassian Confluence is a great tool. It is fast and easy to consult and provides many features that are helpful, such as the use of quick templates. Might be more user-friendly and intuitive.

Atlassian Confluence was originally used in conjunction with Atlassian's other primary project -JIRA- as a collaborative workspace which fed into JIRA for project management and oversight. It was originally used by our whole organization from creative to dev to PMS etc but we found that the structure and integrations were too limiting to be used so broadly. Primarily it wasn't conducive to a dev workflow with PM oversight. As such we have branched out to using other products as a more collaborative workspace while using Confluence more as knowledge dump as well as various wikis for different departments.
  • Functions great as a wiki
  • Excellent repository for SOPs and attaching frequently referenced technical documents etc.
  • Integration into JIRA if you use that for either project management or change control tracking
  • Over the past 6 years the feature set has not significantly expanded
  • Integrations with 3rd party apps (DropBox, Google Drive, Slack) is either through 3rd party plugins or rudimentary at best
  • Frequent interface upgrades and complicated permissions settings makes getting new employees up to speed fiddly in some cases
Confluence makes an excellent WIKI for internal usage and is especially useful for disseminating SOPs or position specific knowledge bases. In our usage we operate multiple call centers in addition to our dev/marketing focus. Confluence lets supervisors and management build knowledge repositories that is position specific and restrict access based on permissions. For our IT team, Confluence is a useful/easy way to create knowledge dumps, upload and manage technical documents, and even store things like backup decryption keys etc. etc.

Atlassian Confluence is used by entire organization across departments and geographies. Atlassian Confluence primarily acts as a central repository for all the knowledge that exists in the organization. The information is well organized in terms of pages and spaces and Atlassian Confluence acts as the first place to search whenever anyone is looking for the information. So it avoids reinventing the wheel by allowing to check if similar work has been done by some other team in some other geography which can be adapted or used as such.
  • One can subscribe to the pages and spaces and receive updates in the feed on their home page.
  • Searching the documents and content is efficient and one can make it more simple by adding labels to the content or pages.
  • Access to a particular page or space can be managed and only certain people can be allowed to view or edit.
  • The process to create pages and upload content is not that intuitive. It takes sometime for an user to get used to it.
  • Search works well with labels but not able to search within the documents and content accurately.
  • There is no way to export the documents to cloud storage solutions.
Atlassian Confluence is primarily suited for medium to large organizations where departments are replicated across geographies. This makes it difficult and imperative at the same time for teams on one geography to know what work is being done by the teams in other geographies. This avoids doing the same work again and enables collaboration when multiple teams are facing the same problem.
